Marathon Technologies Partners with Citrix's Biggest EMEA Distributor to Challenge VMWare

Marathon Technologies and Citrix partner to provide companies with an alternative virtualization solution to VMWare and offer fault-tolerant class availability

Berkshire, UK, 10 December 2007— Marathon Technologies, a leading provider of automated, fault tolerant-class availability solutions for virtual and physical environments, today announces a partnership with ADN, EMEA’s biggest distributor of Citrix systems. The partnership has been created to challenge VMWare’s dominance in the EMEA region, providing companies with an alternative virtualisation solution in XenServer.

By combining ADN’s expertise in thin-client technologies with Citrix’s newly acquired XenServer hypervisor and Marathon’s fault tolerant-class availability, the companies are providing a full thin-client package for enterprise and medium sized companies. ADN will also be offering virtualised platforms using Citrix XenServer Enterprise and Marathon independently of the thin-client environment.

Udo Schillings, ADN head of marketing, comments: “We decided to collaborate with Marathon because of the unparalleled technical capabilities of the everRun series. The products are easy to integrate to an existing infrastructure and easy to use from an administrative point of view. Above all, whilst they can provide complete fault-tolerance, an organisation has the liberty to choose the level of availability required for individual applications. Also, because of both Marathon’s and our own partnerships with XenSource, there is a perfect strategic fit between ADN and Marathon.”

ADN is currently recruiting new resellers to start selling the forthcoming XenServer Enterprise virtualisation platform in the EMEA market, starting with Germany. Schillings points out that the vast majority companies still have not yet adopted virtualisation, and that there is clearly still space for competitive alternatives to the current market leader. Schillings adds that because VMWare is not looking to extend its current reseller base, ADN is in a strong position to begin promoting XenSource and Marathon in Germany through resellers who want to be part of this growing trend.

He says: “Despite the benefits of virtualisation, such as cost savings, ease of management and energy efficiency, many organisations have been reluctant to transition their critical workloads from a physical to a virtual environment because of a lack of fault tolerant-class availability solutions available. Because VMWare environments are all proprietary, fault tolerant solutions for these environments are also proprietary, and there is no opportunity to choose a best of breed solution. With XenServer you’re free to choose the best available add-on solution – which is what we have with Marathon.”

Nick Turnbull, Marathon’s EMEA Director, comments, “In April this year, Marathon formed a strategic and technology-based partnership with XenSource, which was recently acquired by Citrix in an historic $500m deal. Now, this new partnership between Marathon and ADN enables the companies to provide organisations with unprecedented protection for their business-critical, virtualised workloads. It’s a perfect match, particularly with Citrix’s thin-client applications added to the mix, an environment that demands high-, if not fault-tolerant availability of its servers.”
